Science has made our life comfortable. The fans and air conditioners abate the heat of the hot summer. Dazzling electric lamps illuminate our houses. The electric lamps illuminate our houses. This electricity is a bequest of science.

Science has made great strides in the world of medicine. Today nothing is incurable under the sun. Powerful drugs are made up. Thanks to plastics surgery, the deformed become dignified. Transplantation of human organs has become practicable. Like blood banks, eye banks are set up. They help the blind to enjoying the blessing of vision.

Agriculture is being revamped. Farmers of today adopt scientific methods. Pesticides and manures have bought about green revolution. Travel has become safe and quick. Supersonic jet planes fly faster than sound. Rockets and satellites zoom into space. Man has conquered the moon. Recently the computer has come on the scene. This electronic marvel is doing things man has never dreamt of earlier. In short science has made our life worth living.

Who could forget the fate of Nagasaki and Hiroshima Think of the death and disaster brought about by the gas leak in Bhopal. It is a timely warning to the modern man who meddles with science recklessly. Big powers are busy investing perilous bombs. If another war breaks out the world would be reduced to ashes. So science should be coupled with morals. It should be our servant not our master.

Though science has brought in welcome changes it has also ushered in countless evils and horrors. Today we boast of high yielding crops and green revolution. But the indiscriminate use of pesticides has caused more harm than good. The toxic chemicals find their way into the grains and vegetables we consume. Naturally man is becoming vulnerable to diseases and disabilities unknown to medical science.

We have quick means of transport. But road accidents, plane crashes and train mishaps keep hitting the headlines. Drugs which were prepared to save precious lives are being abused. Thrill loving youngsters plunge into the quicksand of drugs addiction and their number is increasing day by day.

Pollution is another serious threat brought about by modern science. Industries keep filling the air with toxic smoke. They empty their wastes into the rivers. The air we breathe and the water we drink are being polluted. The smoke thrown out by the vehicles makes the air impure. The impure air causes diseases related to breathing. The polluted water causes countless skin diseases. Thanks to air pollution the atmosphere becomes unprotected. The solar radiation hits us directly and causes serious ailments.
